Recently @digitalfoundry made a video about Pokémon Winds and Waves and wanted to clarify a big mistake they made on it. They mention multiple times that the games appear to use a fork of Unreal Engine 4. This is incorrect. We know that Winds & Waves use the gflib3 engine, the same one that powers every other main series Pokémon game on Nintendo Switch. Yes, it’s got some heavy upgrades specially in physics simulation, but it’s NOT a new engine.
Game Freak now has a whole department dedicated to developing their own engine. It’s probably never going to change.
