We discovered a sophisticated recording device that was hidden inside one of our offices. We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from, identifying that a specific employee had planted it a few days earlier. We referred the matter to the FBI, and we’re grateful to the agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest. The FBI’s investigation is ongoing and we will continue to support their work. At this time, we have no indications of this individual inappropriately accessing or exfiltrating model weights, source code, or customer data. The employee was terminated. 涉事人員為35歲的阿卜杜勒拉赫曼・阿爾福贊，2025年7月入職OpenAI擔任工程師。9月30日，公司員工在高管會議室電視後方發現一台插在USB接口的加密錄音設備，經排查判斷設備約在9月28日安裝。這間會議室用於討論研發方案、新品規劃、商業合作以及政府相關業務，所有談話內容均屬於公司機密。
監控錄像顯示，阿爾福贊曾在10月5日查看電視後方區域。同日，安保人員還在大樓內他無人看管的包中找到第二台同類錄音裝置。調查還發現，與其配偶相關聯的AI聊天帳號，曾多次查詢錄音設備製作、隱蔽放置和遠程訪問的相關問題。
阿爾福贊現已被聯邦拘留，10月19日將舉行拘留聽證會。他面臨非法截取口頭通信的指控，一旦定罪，最高可獲5年監禁和25萬美元罰款。需要注意，目前相關指控尚未經過法庭認定。
