前暴雪CEO邁克·伊巴拉(Mike Ybarra)再噴老東家,他於4月27日在X發帖,矛頭指向了《魔獸世界》團隊。

伊巴拉稱《魔獸世界》12.0.5的混亂局面「令人遺憾」。他認為現在的魔獸團隊專注不夠,又不夠努力,而初代《魔獸世界》之所以能夠取得巨大成功,源於當時的開發者們「全情投入」。他還表示,要打造一款偉大的MMORPG,做出好的資料片,就必須「把自己生命中的很大一部分奉獻給這份工作」。他主張對魔獸進行一次徹底的「重置」(Reset),其對品質的承諾必須明確且堅定,否則遊戲將繼續走向衰退,這也跟他執掌暴雪期間提出《魔獸世界2》的構想一致。

Everyone is accountable. President has to hire people who can build teams that deliver for players. Those teams have to be dedicated, work hard, and make it happen in a way that exceeds player expectations. If any of that fails, the game usually fails and everyone is accountable. Making games is not for everyone. You have to give it a lot of your life - as a team. And you have to love what you are doing because it becomes life. I can't think of any very successful art form that doesn't take this dedication. Great teams want to make something that is remembered forever. The original WoW team did exactly that - but it took a LOT to do. My hat is off to them - remarkable accomplishment. Nothing comes easy.

伊巴拉的言論很快招來外媒pcgamesn的批評,雖然初代《魔獸世界》可算MMO史上的「奇蹟」,但那些近乎不可能完成的任務,除了依靠早期開發者的巨大熱情,實際建立在海量加班的基礎之上。而伊巴拉的言論像極愛PUA員工的老闆,自然不受待見。

Pcgamesn認為遊戲開發行業早已告別那個舊時代,強制加班已成過去式,現在大家更加珍視作為「人」的自我價值,而不甘於當《魔獸世界》這台龐大機器中一顆任人擺布的螺絲釘。無論哪個版本,出了多少Bug,開發者都應有屬於自己的,脫離工作之外的個人生活。
Pcgamesn認為,雖然魔獸12.0.5版本Bug成堆,嚴重破壞了玩家體驗,但伊巴拉沒資格評判開發者們是否熱愛這款遊戲。Pcgamesn認為12.0的整體表現還可以,尤其是剛結束的「世界首殺競速賽」,熱度很高,比伊巴拉掌權時要好。

值得一提的是,伊巴拉時期,他曾主導一輪超級裁員,導致2000名暴雪QA人員失去工作,現在他又暗示現在員工不夠努力、缺乏熱情,這被Pcgamesn批評為虛偽至極。
伊巴拉目前在一家體育博彩公司任CEO,但他依然關注遊戲行業,經常發表對暴雪和微軟的激烈批評。
