Windows Vista孿生兄弟的Windows Server 2008，在服役多年後，終於走到了生命的終點。
隨著2026年1月13日 Premium Assurance（高級保障）計劃的終止，這個基於Windows Vista/Longhorn代碼分支的伺服器作業系統停止了所有安全更新。
Looks like yesterday, January 13th 2026 was the last day of support for Windows Server 2008 (and 2008 R2, for those who had Premium Assurance), which means that Microsoft finally pulled the plug on the Vista/Longhorn codebase after 6923 days.
Windows Server 2008發布於2008年，雖然Vista在消費市場因硬體要求高、兼容性等問題口碑褒貶不一，但同出一源的Server 2008卻憑藉出色的安全性改進和網路功能，在伺服器市場站穩了腳跟。
即便在其後繼者Windows Server 2008 R2（基於Windows 7核心）發布後，原版Server 2008依然有著頑強的生命力。
根據2019年的一項調查顯示，當時全球有60%的Windows Server仍在使用這一版本，足見其在企業生產環境中的地位。
此前微軟早已停止了Windows Server 2008的主流支持，但通過ESU以及Premium Assurance，它一直處於「續命」狀態，不過隨著本月支持期限的徹底屆滿，微軟將不再為該版本提供任何官方技術諮詢或協助。
對於目前仍在使用該系統的少數企業，最好的做法是遷移到現代且受支持的替代品，如Windows Server 2025或2022。
