聊天應用 Signal 對當前版本的 Microsoft Recall 感到不滿，並利用 Windows 中的數碼版權管理 (DRM) 功能來阻止該工具截取私人對話的快照。
Recall 並非默認啟用，並且在捕捉截圖時缺乏細緻的控制。雖然它會忽略隱身模式的瀏覽器窗口，但其他內容一概納入拍攝範圍。Signal 以聊天隱私著稱，因此認為消息窗口自動截圖是不可接受的。
由於缺乏允許開發者限制 Microsoft 對桌面的窺視的設置，Signal 採用了 DRM 方法。為應用窗口設置 DRM 標記意味著 Recall (and any other screenshotter) 將會忽略該窗口。
Signal 解釋道： "Apps like Signal have essentially no control over what content Recall is able to capture, and implementing 'DRM' that works for you (not against you) is the best choice that we had. It's like a scene in a movie where the villain has switched sides, and you can't screenshot this one by default either."
在 Windows 11 上，Signal 桌面版的新 "Screen security" 設置默認開啟。關閉該設定會彈出警告，並要求用戶確認後才能繼續。
這雖然是個粗暴的工具，但幾乎難以規避。正如 Signal 所指出，出於合理目的，有時確實需要截屏。例如，螢幕閱讀器或放大工具等輔助功能軟體若無法正常運行，將會造成問題。此外，該功能僅適用於本地設備。
Recall 在一年前的 Microsoft 2024 Build 大會上慘遭亮相。它的初衷是捕捉快照，讓用戶回到之前的工作狀態，這看似是個好主意，但其實際實現卻更像是個原型，莫名其妙地就發布到了更廣泛的用戶群體中。
網路安全專家和隱私活動家對 Recall 進行了嚴厲抨擊，迫使 Microsoft 被迫重新審視其設計並改進此工具。
2025 年 4 月，在經歷了 2024 年末對重構版的試探性預覽後，Recall 出現在 Windows Insider Release Preview 渠道中。該功能為可選功能，並且在本文撰寫時仍帶有 "Preview" 標籤。Microsoft 表示： "You are always in control of what apps and websites get saved in snapshots."
然而，Signal 對 Recall 的評價則更為諷刺。 "Take a screenshot every few seconds" legitimately sounds like a suggestion from a low-parameter LLM that was given a prompt like "How do I add an arbitrary AI feature to my operating system as quickly as possible in order to make investors happy?"
