奧特曼指出，這一改變是隨著公司更全面地推行年齡驗證機制，並遵循「將成年用戶視為成年人對待」的原則。
他解釋稱，公司此前對ChatGPT施加了「相當嚴格的限制」，主要是為了謹慎處理心理健康問題。但目前，公司已具備緩解嚴重心理健康問題的新工具，因此將能夠在大多數情況下安全地放鬆這些限制。

除了解禁成人內容外，奧特曼還透露，在未來幾周內，OpenAI計劃推出一個新版本的 ChatGPT，允許用戶為AI設置更具個性化的「人格」。屆時，ChatGPT將能以更像人類、更像朋友的方式回應用戶。
