David Ellison reportedly wants James Gunn and Peter Safran to stay at DC Studios after the Paramount-Warner merger closes, and I think people are reading way too much into that. Of course he wants them to stay. What’s the alternative? Publicly kneecap the current DC slate while MAN OF TOMORROW, THE BATMAN PART II, CLAYFACE and everything else are already in motion? Warner Bros. already did that once in 2022-23, when audiences were expected to care about four DCEU movies everyone knew belonged to a dead universe. That doesn’t mean Gunn and Safran are bulletproof. SUPERGIRL was a real financial miss, and Mike Flanagan has gone out of his way to clarify that the finished CLAYFACE is James Watkins’ movie, not his original vision. There are absolutely things to question. But this 「vote of confidence」 feels less like a coronation and more like corporate common sense. Keep the machine running. Protect the slate. Don’t spook investors. Don’t tell audiences the thing they’re currently buying tickets for is about to be torn apart. Then when the contracts come up, Ellison can decide what he actually wants. That's the truth. https://twitter.com/mjarbo/status/2106104738294956147
