I don't think gamers really understand how bad of a state the video game industry is in right now. The Rockstar developer I am interviewing next week has been unemployed for a year, he can't find work and this is someone who worked on L.A. Noire, RDR1, GTA V and RDR2!! Even with an impressive resume he can't even get interviews, I wasn't exaggerating when I said we are in the midst of an extinction level event of talent in the game industry.
This picture I'm sharing is from some random recruiter advertising jobs at Riot (in China, and mostly aimed at Chinese!). This is happening at the same time as Riot just laid off 80 of their staff working in 2XKO. My point with the quoted tweet and this is not to suggest people struggling to find work in gaming elsewhere should/can move to China. It's also not to say that everything is alright in the industry! My point is simply trying to provide a more ample perspective, and reminding people that whatever is happening to some (or many) in some portions of the world is not necessarily representative of all, everywhere. To look at what is happening in the gaming job market in the USA (in particular) and then claim that's a sign of a crumbling industry, simply isn't accurate. The gaming industry keeps growing. It's perhaps just not growing where YOU are, unfortunately. Market/economical shifts are a reality. (the picture shared is automatically translated. Countless posts like this for recruitment can be found online right now in the Chinese webs. The post-holiday period after the Chinese New Year is the biggest hiring season of the year)
